A Qualitative Study on Art Therapist's Experience Using Arts Media in Hospice and Palliative Care

Abstract
The purposes of this study are to provide an in-depth exploration art therapists' experiences while using media in a hospice and palliative care setting and to understand the meaning and essence of their experiences. To achieve these goals, a study applied the qualitative research methodology, from March to May 2021, focus group and individual in-depth interviews were conducted face-to-face and non-face-to-face in accordance with the social distancing guidelines and participant autonomy. As a result of analyzing the collected data, the results were as follows. First, although it is difficult to select and use the medium in the clinical setting, art therapists constantly think about it and try to actively use the medium. Second, realized that the media allows patients and families to feel physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually well-being, and that they also come into contact with one's inner self and influence media selection. Third, medium is treated meaningfully as a medium that facilitates the interaction of relationships and helps the connection between objects. Fourth, confirming that the therapist itself is a medium, expand the meaning of the medium. This study presents basic data on media by providing practical information to art therapists and related major students and provides an in-depth understanding of hospice and palliative care art therapy.
